July 2024

We all left the July meeting with spirits uplifted after the dismal weather. An entertaining and amusing talk on the history of hairdressing with lots of personal anecdotes by an international, prize winning hairdresser from humble beginnings in Lancashire. We were  all relieved to know that styles are much simpler today.

June 2024

The speaker at our June meeting gave us plenty to think about as he shared his thoughts and research on Shakespeare's sonnets and plays. Rather like a Tudor soap opera we learnt of affairs and illegitimacy amongst the nobility and left for home wondering "Who did write Shakespeare's plays and sonnets?"

May 2024

The speaker at our May meeting gave an interesting and entertaining talk on Edward Elgar. We were all surprised and sad to learn that despite his remarkable talent he suffered from mental health problems in an era when it would be misunderstood.

April 2024

A fantastic presentation by four members of the Stalybridge  Patchwork and Quilting group. Established in 1993 and with over 30 members, this group has designed and produced award winning pieces over the years. They spoke about the history of quilting and displayed 12 quilts made by the group as team projects.

March 2024

This month we had a visit from  a representative from Medical Detection Dogs, unfortunately minus a dog! The group train dogs to support people with life threatening  health conditions, saving their lives on a daily basis and helping the NHS by keeping them out of hospital. They also carry out ground breaking research  to improve early diagnosis of cancer and other diseases

February 2024

We had a visit from Viv and Roy, two of the leaders of Forget-Me-Not Buddies, our local charity of the year. They presented a heart warming talk of the wonderful work they offer to the carers and people who live with Dementia. Their valuable work is a lifeline to many people as they offer fun activities at their gatherings and regular day trips.
